IBAN Validation

A Turkish IBAN has 26 characters; country format and MOD-97 catch many typos. A valid checksum is not proof of a safe payee.

What MOD-97 checks

After rearrangement and letter-to-number conversion, division by 97 must leave remainder one. That catches many single-character errors.

The IBAN checker validates format/checksum only. It does not return balances or account-holder names.

Corporate payables teams should paste IBANs from master data rather than retyping from chat screenshots. Still verify the legal name on the bank confirmation screen; checksums never prove identity.

TR structure

TR IBANs are 26 characters. Display spaces are cosmetic; paste the compact value. Foreign IBAN lengths differ by country.

Security limits

A valid IBAN can still belong to a scammer. Confirm payee details through a second channel before large transfers.

Invoice QR codes and PDF attachments can be altered by attackers. Call a known phone number on a prior contract before changing a supplier IBAN. Small test transfers reduce but do not eliminate risk.

Copy and OCR mistakes

0/O and 1/I swaps are common in photos. Checksums catch many, not all. Treat sudden “new IBAN” messages with caution.

Cross-border notes

SWIFT fees and FX spreads are separate from IBAN validation. Use the currency converter only as a hint, not the bank rate.

OUR/SHA/BEN fee instructions change how much the beneficiary receives even when the IBAN is perfect. Confirm currency, fees and value date in writing for large cross-border payments.

Safe workflow

Validate format, confirm the payee, check amount and currency, then trust the bank screen. Informational only.

Practical tips

  • Paste without spaces, then validate.
  • Compare the payee name on the bank screen.
  • Use a second channel for large amounts.
  • Re-check OCR characters 0/O and 1/I.
  • Remember: valid ≠ trustworthy.

FAQ

Does valid mean safe?

No. Checksum validity is not identity, account status or fraud protection.

TR length?

26 characters. Spaces are for display only.

Does the tool show the owner?

No. It checks format and checksum only.

Foreign IBANs?

Length rules differ by country while MOD-97 remains the common checksum idea.

Can a wrong transfer be reversed?

It depends on the banks and the recipient; there is no guarantee. Confirm before you send.
